WANTED: VOLUNTEER TO TRANSLATE THIS NEWSLETTER INTO CANTONESE AND/OR MANDARIN

One of the great things about our neighborhood is its remarkable diversity.  We have a large Chinese-speaking population on Haddon Hill, and we want to make sure we are reaching these neighbors.  Could you volunteer to translate this newsletter?  It would be a terrific service you could provide for our community. If you are interested, please call Paul or Anne at 836-2427.

Haddon Hill Pet Corner

By Kathleen Kirkish

Whether you have an old dog learning new tricks, or a new puppy has joined your family, training should be your number one priority. S_dogs Establishing the rules will guarantee a happy future for you all.  Remember the three Ps -Persistence, Praise and Patience.

Persistence - Be consistent, clear and reliable.  Correct any unwanted behaviors each and every time they occur.  Every member of the household (pack) must agree on the rules and enforce them.  Your dog is looking for direction from you.

Praise – Reward good behavior with praise.  Pay attention to the tone and volume of your voice.  Be firm in corrections. There is no need to yell.

Patience - It takes a lot of work to build your relationship with your dog. Be patient with your dog, yourself and your family.  Allow the time and energy necessary to properly train your dog.  Enroll in an obedience training class, and most of all - have fun!
