This is a survey and availability study only, in that its purpose is
to make an analysis of current trends and practices in the industry.
A significant effort was made to insure the timeliness and correctness
of the data in this study. There is still a potential for inaccuracies
for the following reasons:
- Data may be unknown or potentially incorrect in some cases
- Old information may have been used for recent products
- Some information is unconfirmed (rumors)
- Not every database representative knew what their Unicode plans were
- Some vendors were unwilling to divulge information about their products
- Some information is about beta or future products that may change content
before they become production
This is not a "competitive analysis". Each vendor supplies a
unique set of core features and competencies that prospective customers
or developers should consider before making a procurement decision of one
product over another. It is the authors hope that this paper, if anything,
will encourage developers contemplating a plunge into the Unicode World
regardless of what their database of choice currently is.
